This weekend was fabulously relaxing with the majority spent outdoors enjoying the sun {in need of a tan}. Every Saturday I treat myself to a favorite indulgence and this week had to dip in to a jar of Speculoos cookie spread. I have been addicted to this treat since discovering it in Paris. I also got quite the thrill when a gift from the hubby arrived for me; a delicate horseshoe bracelet that I have been coveting. Although our one year {wedding} anniversary is next month, my hubby is a total romantic and insisted we still celebrate our dating anniversary. Naturally I agreed since I love a celebration and can never turn down a gift-getting opportunity! The weekend ended with an ah-mazing yoga workshop Sunday afternoon that was extremely hard but felt so good {although I am painfully sore today!}

How To: Layering for Spring

Stripes citron

With Spring and its unpredictable weather, I prefer to wear layers for the cold mornings and nights but still look polished in the middle of the afternoon when half the layers are removed. This look is one of my favorites, it is made up of simple layers that are easy to replicate with these key pieces; yellow jacket or cardigan {on sale!} chambray top, striped blouse {another option} and white denim. Add a favorite bag and jewelry to complete the look.

Guacamole Burgers

guacamole stuffed turkey burger

I recently discovered this recipe for guacamole burgers on Pinterest {sweet treats} and highly recommend it. The hubby enjoys it so much it has become a weekly must-have. The dinner has a light, Spring/Summer feel and includes one of our favorite foods – guacamole.

As for my own how-to? The recipe is easy to follow but I am a visual person so I use the image/idea of creating stuffed burgers topped with guacamole. I use some of the ingredients for guacamole to stuff the burgers – chop 1/4 each of a jalapeno, green pepper and red onion then mix those ingredients with the turkey meat, adding a bit of juice from a lemon and lime so the meat won’t dry out and to give a tangy taste to match the guacamole, along with a bit of cheese in the center of each burger. I roll each burger in a tight ball and cook on low heat while making the guacamole. Once the burgers are done, I top them with guacamole {add cheese or sour cream too} and voilà! The chopping takes a while but the result is so fresh and delicious it is worth the effort.

White Blazer

white blazer + pearls & black

white blazer + stripes & chambray

One of my constant go-to outfits is a blazer with skinny jeans. For Spring I want something a bit fresher and have become enamored with the look of a white blazer. I love how a white blazer lightens up dark bottoms while still keeping a slim look and retaining the polished style of a blazer, along with being just as easy to wear as a standard black or navy blazer with skinnies, tees, dresses and skirts.

Lanvin Ballet Flats

lanvin ballet flats

I have an addiction and love for the classic style of ballet flats {ballerina dreams} and I have always wanted the perfect French ballet flat. After endless research comparing Chanel, Lanvin and Repetto {love research that involves trying on exquisite craftsmanship!} I have found my perfect ballet flat in the Lanvin ballet flat. It is the absolute best, dream-come-true ballet flat. The shoe has a built-in tiny wedge that gives a bit more support, the leather is soft and supple yet durable {versus lambskin which can tear easily} and the fit was perfection from the first try on and did not need to be broken in at all {I couldn’t resist wearing them the next day} I chose the black mixed with a white toe-cap and touch of gold instead of solid black because I liked the additional attention to detail it created for this exquisite shoe.

Friday Favorites

Weekends are wonderful days that are full of possibilities, decadent treats, mini projects {for the go-getters} or days of blissful relaxation. I usually lean more towards blissful relaxation and plan to take my relaxing outdoors to enjoy the warmer weather and get a bit of color {+ Vitamin D!} thrown in too. Happy weekend!

What To Wear: White Denim

I adore wearing denim, I love the ease and style that comes from this versatile fabric. My go-to choice is always a dark, skinny fit but I am consistently drawn to white denim also. This color choice can seem tricky at first; people fear white denim will be unflattering but if you get a pair that has the right amount of stretch {I prefer 2%} in a heavier fabric and combine it with a few tried-and-true styling mixes, white denim will become a flattering and classic addition to your denim wardrobe.

Easy Ways To Add Pastels To Your Wardrobe

Now that Spring is here, it feels as though pastel colors are all around. Pastels are sweet and just right for brightening up favorite go-to pieces and outfits. I prefer to incorporate these soft shades in to my wardrobe by mixing them with a neutral shade or pairing with a denim top/bottom.  I prefer to wear pale pink; it’s a blush tone that is also close to a neutral, looks good on all skin tones and pairs easily with darker or lighter neutral shades. For a bit more of a pastel color pop, I like to add mint or lilac. These shades are a bit more statement making but still easy to work with.

pale pink pastels

{pale pink worn on the top and bottom works well together because the sheer fabric for the top juxtaposes against the denim. the pieces are then paired with a black cross-body bag that serves as a steadying neutral for the pastels}

pastel bottoms + bag

{pink pants are mixed with a pastel bag and the textured sweater serves as a neutral for the two pastel shades}

pastels, lace + denim

{adding a denim top to pastel bottoms holds together the different textures and colors at play in this look}

beige moto + lilac denim

{beige moto jacket, quilted purse and gold jewelry are luxurious neutrals against lilac denim}

pink pastel + grey & white

{soft greys and whites play well with pale pink bottoms}

mint top pale skirt

{mint top, pale skirt and pink lips are perfect together and pairing the pieces with a darker neutral clutch adds an edge to the soft look}

mint trench coat

{stone colored denim pairs well with a bright, statement making mint trench}

Mint & The Perfect Spring Jacket

Finding the perfect Spring jacket can be tough. It has to be warm enough to battle the wind but still lightweight {a relief after winter’s heavy coats!} along with a twist that makes the jacket special. This jacket by Joie may be my ideal Spring jacket. I am completely enamored with the mint color and how the pastel shade and crepe fabric combine to soften the tough bomber style creating a jacket that is pretty, lightweight and unique.
